The NBI Clearance: Your Safety Net in Hiring!

Let’s chat about something super important but often overlooked – the NBI Clearance.

Picture this: You’ve found the perfect candidate in the Philippines. Great skills, great personality. But how do you make absolutely sure they’re as trustworthy as they seem? You don’t want to find out your new team member, who’s miles away, has a, let’s say, ‘colourful’ past.

That’s where the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Clearance comes in.

What is it and why is it important?

This is an opportunity provided to you, by the Filipino Government, to uncover any criminal past the candidate might have, all across the Philippines. It’s like having a ’secret detective’ and provides you with the kind of intel that resumes and interviews won’t tell you. Or if a candidate withdraws from your recruitment process when you ask them for their NBI, there’s a strong chance this is helping you avoid an awkward conversation with them in the future.

By using the NBI Clearance, you can create more comfort that you’re building a trustworthy team, even if they’re halfway around the world. It’s all about knowing who you’re working with and if there are any nasty surprises lurking in the background.

How do I run an NBI Clearance on a prospective employee?

The NBI clearance must be provided by the team member themselves, and the vast majority of Filipinos know how to do this. So simply make sure you request this from your prospective teammate during the hiring process.

Also note that the validation period is annual, so be sure to renew this one with your offshore team members each year (just be aware that there’s a cost attached to requesting one)

When hiring offshore, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. While the NBI Clearance doesn’t give you the full picture, it’s a critical step in the right direction.

So ‘dot those i’s and cross those t’s’ so your business and your clients aren’t left exposed.
