For many businesses, the operational benefits of offshoring are obvious. Greater capacity, stronger support teams, the ability to scale more sustainably and take pressure off overstretched local teams.
But alongside those benefits, there is often another question sitting quietly in the background:
“Does this actually sit right with our values?”
For us, when this question comes up, it bodes well for the relationship from the outset. It’s a strong indication that we are starting on the same page, with a shared belief that offshoring can and should be done ethically, responsibly and in a way that creates opportunities for everyone involved.
At 5 ELK, we’ve always believed that creating operational capacity for clients should never come at the expense of the people delivering the work. That belief sits at the core of how we operate, and becoming B Corp certified was an important way of reinforcing that commitment.
The certification process involves putting your business under a microscope. Policies, processes, stakeholder relationships, leadership decisions, employee support, community impact and governance all come under review.
For us, the process wasn’t about reinventing who we are. In many cases, it was about documenting, refining and strengthening practices that already mattered to us.
It also challenged us to think more deeply about our responsibilities as a business:
• What standards do we hold ourselves to?
• What should our people, clients and community expect from us?
• How do we make sure growth never comes at the expense of our values?
In the offshoring space particularly, trust matters. Businesses want to know that the partner they work with is creating opportunities, supporting people properly and operating responsibly.
We’ve always cared deeply about that side of the business. But in an industry where businesses are right to ask difficult questions, we also believe accountability matters.
B Corp certification gives clients confidence that the standards we talk about are not just internal ambitions. They are independently assessed, measured and continuously challenged.
We are proud to be part of this global movement that is committed to positive change for our people and our planet. Why not join us?
